Current students, faculty and staff, alumni, and guests gathered in IDeATe Studio A during Spring Carnival at “IDeATe Open Studios” to learn more about interdisciplinary student projects and unique immersive course events.

On Friday, March 22, the Libraries hosted “Reproducibility Hackathon 2024: A Day in Digital Humanities,” a day-long hackathon focused on replicating and augmenting published research. The hackathon was collaborative rather than competitive — each team worked with data and code produced from the same publication, exploring new ideas and analyses.

Nine doctoral students explained their complex research and its importance in under three minutes during the championship round of Carnegie Mellon University's Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, held Thursday, March 14 in Tepper School of Business’s Simmons Auditorium A.

On January 25, the University Libraries hosted “Fine and Rare IV: Inside CMU Libraries’ Special Collections.” At the virtual event, Curator of Special Collections Sam Lemley introduced recently acquired items in the collections. A recording of the event is now available.

On November 30, the University Libraries and the Center for Print, Networks, and Performance (CPNP) welcomed Cogan University Professor of the Humanities at Harvard University Stephen Greenblatt to deliver his lecture “Shakespeare's First Folio and Second Chance.”

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) declared 2023 the Year of Open Science, featuring actions across the federal government to advance national open science policy, provide access to the results of the nation’s taxpayer-supported research, accelerate discovery and innovation, promote public trust, and drive more equitable outcomes. This fall, the University Libraries has brought members of the CMU community together to discuss these topics and more in a series of open science-focused events.

CMU doctoral candidates of every level can register to participate in the 2024 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition for the chance to gain early career recognition, connect with the campus community, and win prizes of up to $3,000.
