On Friday, August 22, new and returning students and other CMU community members gathered in various locations throughout Hunt and Sorrells libraries to participate in orientation information sessions. The sessions covered a variety of areas that live within the Libraries, including the University Archives, the Sustainability Initiative, Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, and the Integrative Design, Arts, and Technology network (IDeATe).

How Data and Code Support Service Makes Data Management More Accessible

At the University Libraries, the Data and Code Support service offers specialized, one-on-one assistance for students, faculty and staff using open source coding languages and data science tools in their research or projects. Whether you're wrangling a massive dataset or learning to code for the first time, CMU Libraries’ Data and Code Support team offers personalized, discipline-specific guidance to empower your research and accelerate discovery.

Data & Code Support Team Builds Research Skills Across Campus

The University Libraries offers a variety of resources to help the CMU community master coding in open source programming languages and common data science tools, from workshops to recorded lessons available on YouTube. For those in need of more specialized assistance, students, staff, and faculty can also schedule virtual or in-person consultations with the Data & Code Support team.

Posner Center Renovation Reimagines Space for Special Collections

Special Collections, CMU’s repository for rare books, manuscripts, and early calculating devices and cryptographic machines, is a unique campus resource that illuminates the history of science and technology. Thanks to an $8 million commitment from the Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh, the University Libraries is transforming the Posner Center into a dedicated Special Collections library, updating and expanding the space in order to engage the CMU and greater Pittsburgh community on a wider scale.
