OFAI And Heinz College Team Up on a New Open-Source AI Curriculum

Open Forum for AI (OFAI) is working with Heinz College and the NobleReach Foundation to develop an open-source AI curriculum tailored specifically to the needs of public sector and OFAI member institutions. Its creation affirms OFAI’s commitment to advancing ethical and accessible approaches to AI by empowering the public with the tools they need to harness AI for the common good.

From the Archives: Historic Physics and Mathematics Research Preserved

Physics professor Zener, along with his colleague, mathematics professor Richard Duffin, influenced a generation of scientists and mathematicians during their tenure at CMU — from Nobel Prize winners and Wolf Prize winners to department heads. Through their own work, they revolutionized operations research and modern electronics, kickstarting the discipline of geometric programming and laying the foundation for countless new fields and future innovations.

Libraries Celebrates Two Years of CMU OSPO

July 2024 marks two years since Helen and Henry Posner, Jr. Dean of the University Libraries Keith Webster established the Carnegie Mellon University Open Source Programs Office (OSPO) with funds from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Led by Associate Dean for Digital Infrastructure Sayeed Choudhury, the OSPO has grown as a community resource for open source activity across campus, while continuing to provide strategic guidance and thought leadership in key areas.

Through Space, A Story

Associate Director of Creative Heidi Wiren Kebe is developing a reputation at Carnegie Mellon. At the University Libraries, she’s helped establish a robust exhibition program. She’s also traveled across the United States and internationally to develop and exhibit her own creative work.

Siddiqui Receives Udall Scholarship

Aleena Siddiqui, a rising junior with a double major in materials science and engineering and environmental and sustainability studies, has received the 2024 Udall Scholar award, which recognizes future leaders in environmental, Tribal public policy, and health care fields.
