On September 17, members of the CMU community gathered in the Sustainability Studio of Hunt Library to celebrate Constitution Day with a hands-on DIY workshop. Attendees designed and crafted postcards to be shared with friends, family, and peers to encourage them to get to the ballot box on Election Day.
“This year’s Constitution Day workshop was a great opportunity for students to get creative while maximizing the impact of their civic engagement,” said Events Manager Erin Swift, who led the event. “Students brought their voting values to life with their postcard designs and shared them directly with their community as a call to action.”
The Block Center for Technology and Society was on hand to share insights on responsible voting practices in the age of AI, and CMU Votes and the League of Women Voters attended to register voters for National Voter Registration Day. The Sustainability Initiative also stopped by to discuss the connection between civic engagement and sustainability.
Attendees also received a pocket copy of the Constitution.
For those interested in exploring the Constitution further, Special Collections holds a copy of the Bill of Rights — one of only five copies that survive. The Posner Bill of Rights can be viewed on the Libraries' Digital Collections platform.
