February isn’t the only month to read about Black history, especially given the recent attacks by right wing politicians on multicultural education. The following books, available from Hunt Library, are just a few suggestions to commemorate African American lives and achievements.

Celebrating a rich cultural heritage, it is an opportunity to spotlight the achievements that African Americans have accomplished in this country, despite the long and continuing history of racism and oppression.

Many people know of Dr. King's work in the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s. However, Dr. King was a multifaceted individual who spoke out against many other injustices he witnessed in society, such as poverty, capitalism and the war in Vietnam.

The book display ties in with the November 9th event, when Jewell Parker Rhodes joined Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer Wanda Heading-Grant in a conversation about the power of representation and what it means to see yourself reflected in the world around you.
