Oral History Production Assistant David Bernabo completed a new documentary film called “Peerless City.” The film was co-directed with Ohio-based writer Amanda Page and premiered at the Appalachian Foothills Festival in Portsmouth, OH on March 26, 2022. The film charts the history of Portsmouth by analyzing three of the city's slogans. The film will be available on PBS in 2022.
Bernabo also published a book of interviews with and about the avant-garde composer "Blue" Gene Tyranny. Other composers and musicians are interviewed in the book, which includes stories of touring with Iggy Pop and Carla Bley along with thoughts on the alchemical nature of music. The book was published in January 2022 and has moved onto a second edition.
