COVID-19 has closed all of our library locations, so, when it came to celebrating our students, we turned a physical tradition into a virtual one.
At the end of every semester, it has been tradition for the Libraries to pay tribute to our graduating student workers by honoring them with a book from our collection.
Students choose a title they love and pull it from the shelves. A printed label – or bookplate – is inserted in the inside cover with the student’s name, major, and graduation date. It’s then showcased in a library display with their fellow graduating coworkers.
Due to the current challenges of curating a physical display, our library team got creative and created a virtual one instead. The current selection of bookplates for Spring 2020 is now on display in our online gallery.
“Dedicating library books to our graduating student workers is just one way in which we try to express our gratitude for their time spent working in the University Libraries,” said Amy Perrier, Interim Head of Access Services. “Some of them have worked their entire college careers with us, so we didn’t want to miss this opportunity to recognize and thank them for their hard work.”
