The Libraries now offer access to LabArchives Professional Edition for research and Classroom Edition for teaching and learning for all CMU faculty, staff, and students, at no cost. The new license will save CMU users $21,000 in out-of-pocket expenses each year, as current users are no longer going to be required to spend $15 per semester on individual licenses for the classroom edition.
LabArchives is an Electronic Research Notebook that can be used for securely storing, sharing, searching, and managing research data in any field or as a lab manual and notebook in lab classes. With LabArchives, you can replace paper notebooks by interconnecting all of your lab data and image files to your observations and notes. Data can be stored in any format and organized in an intuitive folder structure.
You can easily upload images and videos directly to a notebook while conducting lab experiments, as well as automatically import digital experimental data captured on lab machines. Integrate your notebooks with external platforms that can be used to store files and data including CMU Box accounts and Google Drive.
LabArchives can also be used to:
- Organize research data
- Preserve data securely, including all versions of files and documentation
- Share information with members of your research group or external collaborators
- Satisfy data management mandates from funders
- Assign, grade, and monitor student work in lab classes
