In recognition of Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week 2018, the University Libraries will be holding an exhibit entitled "The Art of the Remix," which illustrates what happens when artists remix existing work and make it their own. The exhibit will run from Monday, February 19th – Friday, March 30th on the first-floor of Hunt Library.
Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week is an annual celebration of the important doctrines of fair use and fair dealing. Fair use and fair dealing are essential limitations and exceptions to copyright, allowing the use of copyrighted materials without permission from the copyright holder under certain circumstances.
The Libraries is seeking student projects to include in the exhibit, where students have “remixed” copyrighted materials to create something new. This can be in the form of collage, graphics, computer art, or other media. In order to submit your work for consideration, please contact exhibit coordinator Andy Prisbylla via email at andyp@andrew.cmu.edu by Friday, February 9th with the following information:
- 1-5 images (all images will be completely confidential)
- Title & Dimensions
- Type(s) of Media
Feel free to contact Andy with any questions, and make sure to visit the links below for further information on fair use and remix theory. We look forward to seeing the work!
